NY Ayrshire Youth Program
The officers, junior advisors and the executive committee met to discuss future opportunities for New York
State Ayrshire Youth. The following new programs were established: Production Awards for the highest
production in milk, fat and protein for 2yr, 3yr, 4yr, 5yr and 6yr olds and over. These will be presented
at the Junior All Breeds Convention, January 2009 to be held in Corning, New York.
A New Calf Scholarship program will be available for youth interested in owning a registered
Ayrshire Calf. The age requirement is 7–15 with a limit on current ownership of Registered Cattle. The
Convention Fund allocated $1000 to establish the scholarship money towards the purchase of a calf at a
public auction. The applications are available and the selections will be made prior to the Carousel Sale.
Monies may be available for
2 – 3 winners based on quality of applications.
New York Ayrshire Princess Contest will be held at the state picnic in July 2009
Applications are due May 1, 2009 and are similar to the applications needed for the National Contest.
Ayrshire Youth Book Contest: The committee encourages the New York Ayrshire Youth to fill out the
National Booklets and submit them for National recognition. We feel confident that our youth with there
involvement in 4-H, FFA, Ayrshires etc. would be very competitive on the National Level. We all need to
assist and support our youth in this endeavor. New York will be using the same forms for our recognition
and will attempt to give recommendation/suggestions before they are sent in for the national contest. The
New York due dates for this year will be January 15, 2009. The due date for the National Contest is March 1,
2009.
Dairy Bowl Contest: We strongly encourage our youth to become involved in the NY 4-H and NY Junior
Holstein Dairy Bowl contests. We would like to see in the future a sponsored Dairy Bowl Team from New
York competing at the National Ayrshire Convention. The criteria for team selections will be determine at a
future meeting. What ideas do you have?
2008 NY State Fair - 2009: Many of the Ayrshire Youth participated with the Brown Swiss Youth at a fun
night/Dairy Olympics and a Pizza Party. We thank the Brown Swiss Youth for this joint venture and will
continue this for next year. In 2009 there will be a Little Bitches Showmanship Contest for the youth at
second part of the fair. NY Ayrshire will be the sponsor for 2009; hopefully the other breeds will become the
future sponsors.
New York State fair booth will be back at the fair in 2009. We will need volunteers to help us.
Calf Raffle - we are also seeking a registered calf for the 2009 calf raffle again to raise additional
funding, Please contact us if you a calf or will have a calf available The money raised will be crucial in
the support of future calf scholarships and other youth activities. We definitely will need your help at
the booth and selling raffle tickets.
We will have all the youth information, e.g. NY Ayrshire Association Calf Scholarship Application,
Production Awards, NY State Ayrshire Princess Contest, Record Book Program, Scholarships, Young
Breeder and Young Leader Awards, and Membership Applications on the NY web site,

computer call or write and we will send the forms out to you. Feel free to make copies and pass to pass out.
